About
This blog charts the restoration of an Interdata Model 74 mini computer.
The Interdata Model 74 was a member of the second generation of Interdata minicomputers and was built in the early 70s. The 74 was the entry level model designed to compete with the PDP-11/05 in the OEM market. Other members of family include the more powerful Model 70, 80 and 85. The 74 (and to an extend its more powerful siblings) were replaced by the 7/16 which offered a field upgradable path to Interdatas range of 32 bit minis.
My Model 74 consists of little more than a CPU and is lacking a power supply and any peripherals. Much work will need to go into rebuilding it and before work can commence considerable detective work will be needed to track down information vital to the rebuild.
The aim is to ultimately end up with a restored and operational CPU housed in a replica Interdata rack with a serial console of some variety and a paper tape drive.
